SDI is an innovative product and consulting company specializing in technology projects that lie in the intersection between computation, communication, and imaging. Working with Steve Mann, world-renowned scientist and inventor, the company commercializes inventions produced by Steve Mann and the FL_UI_D LAB at the University of Toronto.

SDI’s commercial imaging products are ‘Glogger’ - a mobile multimedia social networking framework, and ‘OpenVIDIA’ - a platform for high-performance general purpose computing on NVIDIA hardware, achieving up to 30x the performance of CPU-based computation for data-intensive applications.

Working with SDI, Giant Step produced corporate sales presentations for the Glogger mobile social networking framework, which were presented to g8wave, AT&T and Cognos.

In collaboration with g8wave, SDI worked on implementing the Glogger mobile social network for the Boston Phonix.

In 2007, SDI and Steve Mann's FL_UI_D LAB were invited to exhibit at SIGGRAPH, the world's top conference and exhibition for computer graphics and interaction techniques. Giant Step produced a sponsorship package for advertisers to help fund the high-tech art exhibit. Giant Step also produced exhibit booth materials including large-format posters and handouts that simplify the complex topics of the show for a general audience. The exhibition introduced the Picture Permission Protocol (or, SightLisence) - whenever a person takes a photo from a mobile phone, other mobile phones in the area get a copy of the photo and an option to disallow taking their picture. Other SDI products, still in the commercialization phase, are: the ‘Hydraulophone’, a water based pipe-organ flute, and the 'WashBus', a design for a mobile decontamination facility.

Small hydraulophones are already selling internationally, however SDI’s commercialization effort is in the larger versions, such as the landmark hydraulophone FUNtain that is the centerpiece of the Teluscape, a $10M outdoor park in front of the Ontario Science Centre. The price of an architectural hydraulophone is approximately $1.2M.

The pre-cursor to the WashBus, a fixed decontamination facility design, has been constructed on Capitol Hill. Steve Mann designed the facility and served as a consultant on the project.
